Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 10, 2026
Swolly LLC is committed to ensuring that our mobile application is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We strive to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards as they apply to mobile applications.
What We've Done
We have taken the following steps to make Swolly accessible:
- Screen reader support: All interactive elements (buttons, navigation tabs, menu items, settings controls) include descriptive labels for screen readers such as VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android)
- Image descriptions: All images throughout the app (profile photos, competition images, post images, recipe screenshots, food images, and logos) include semantic labels that describe their content
- Touch targets: All interactive elements meet the minimum 44x44 point touch target size recommended by Apple and Google
- Color contrast: We use high-contrast color combinations (dark text on light backgrounds and light text on dark backgrounds) throughout the app
- Text sizing: The app respects system-level text size preferences where supported by the Flutter framework
- Dark mode: Full dark mode support reduces eye strain and improves readability in low-light environments
- Keyboard navigation: Flutter's Material Design widgets provide built-in keyboard navigation and focus management
Known Limitations
We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are working to address them:
- Reduced motion: Some animations in the app do not yet respect the system "reduce motion" accessibility setting. We plan to add support for this in a future update.
- Map content: GPS run route maps provided by Google Maps have limited screen reader accessibility. Route data (distance, pace, duration) is available as text.
- Barcode scanner: The barcode scanning feature requires visual alignment of the camera. Manual food entry is available as an alternative.
Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review and improve the app's accessibility as we add new features. Our development process includes:
- Adding semantic labels and tooltips to all new interactive elements
- Testing with screen readers during development
- Reviewing color contrast for all new UI components
